Announcing the opening reception of OTHERGROUND featuring the artwork of Mark and Vaughn Bodē and a top-notch local guest artist roster!

Straight from his latest exhibition in Paris, France, Mark comes to Phoenix for the first time as he presents this exhibition of pieces based on the important figures of graffiti from the 80s to the present day.  In this collection of work, Mark transforms artists like Dondi, Lady Pink, Seen, and works inspired by the original photographs of Martha Cooper into Bodē characters.  All on maps of New York, canvases, prints, and drawings on paper.

Vaughn Bodē, author of American underground comic books of the 70s with Gilbert Shelton and Robert Crumb, has a great influence on the emerging scene of New York Hip hop and the precursor artists of graffiti.  After Vaughn’s passing, his son Mark faithfully took over his father’s pen and has watched over his stylistic heritage ever since.  The Bodē style and the characters that made it famous: Bubble Letters, Broad Bodē women, and Cheech Wizard, have been inspiring graffiti and street art artists around the world for 50 years.  Original drawings by Vaughn Bodé will also be exhibited.

This Phoenix show has been 3 years in the making and was originally scheduled for Sisao Gallery right before the pandemic shut everything down. One positive from the delay is that it has enabled us to move the exhibition to a larger venue here at mood room and include a guest artist roster that is top-notch.  Featuring guest artists: Brez, Lalo Cota, Tato Coraveo, Dumper, Robert Gentile, Pubek, Champ Styles, Such Styles, Spawk, and Yukue…This is a show you will not want to miss.
